PMC disconnects water connections of 8 hotels

Water supply department of the PMC had conducted a survey of illegal water connections taken by the hotels and marriage halls two days back to ascertain what action can be taken on these unauthorised structures in order to comply with the NGT order.

Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has finally started taking action against illegal structures located along Mutha River on DP Road connecting Rajaram Bridge and Mhatre Bridge.

The action was taken after the National Green Tribunal (NGT) ordered the PMC to take action against the illegal structures located in the flood line of Mutha River and accordingly, the water supply department of the PMC disconnected the water connections of hotels located on DP Road.

Water supply department of the PMC had conducted a survey of illegal water connections taken by the hotels and marriage halls two days back to ascertain what action can be taken on these unauthorised structures in order to comply with the NGT order.

The action was taken on eight hotels totally, which included Reddy’s Party Hall, Vishnuji Ki Rasoi, Kaveri Hotel, Kokan Ratna Hotel, Krushna Garden, PK Biryani, Sinhgad Choupati and Chul Mutton Hotel. According to sources from the civic body, owners of most of the hotels located on DP Road are corporators.

The NGT had earlier ordered the PMC and the State Irrigation Department to jointly identify the unauthorised constructions and reclaimed land by marriage halls and hotels within the blue line flood zone of Mutha River along DP Road within a period of two weeks.

It had also asked the PMC and the irrigation department to demolish or remove the unauthorised constructions for ecological restoration of the riverine zone of Mutha River within a period of four weeks.

The NGT further ordered Pune Municipal Commissioner Kunal Kumar and the irrigation department to file a compliance affidavit promptly
after the lapse of the aforesaid period.
