PMC to contribute Rs. 35 cr for lower deck of flyover

Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will release funds of Rs 35 crore to build a two-tier flyover at Nal Stop Chowk. The civic body is going to release this amount for lower deck of the flyover while the upper deck will be used for the Metro line.

The flyover will be constructed by MahaMetro. The proposal will come up in the Standing Committee for approval on Tuesday. The proposal has been mentioned in the Standing Committee agenda which is published on every Friday.

After consulting with MahaMetro, the PMC has decided to construct the two-tier flyover at Nal Stop Chowk to reduce traffic congestion. MahaMetro has started its work for Vanaz-Ramwadi route which is passing through Nal Stop. MahaMetro has taken responsibility to construct a flyover. The estimated cost of flyover is around Rs 56 crore. Now, the administration has decided to give its share of Rs 35 crore to construct the lower deck while MahaMetro will contribute the remaining amount for the construction of the upper deck.

MahaMetro has introduced a two-tiered flyover in Nagpur Metro route.

According to MahaMetro, this will save cost and time of both the agencies. Metro officials said that the two-tier flyover will be beneficial as compared to the single flyover to reduce traffic problem. The Nal Stop flyover will start at SNDT Chowk at Karve Road and will pass over Nal Stop Chowk landing a few metres ahead of Abhinav Chowk. The commuters will be able to cover the distance without stopping at the chowk. The flyover will be useful for commuters travelling towards Kothrud and to Deccan Gymkhana.
