PM inaugurates RUSA at 150 locations across the country

PUNE: “With emphasis on research, innovation, incubation and start-ups, a new educational temperament is being developed in the country. With the second phase of Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) focussing on the institutions with a great potential, we are going in the right direction,” said Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Prime Minister digitally launched several initiatives under the second phase of RUSA on Sunday at more than 150 locations across the country, through video conferencing.
“We will always try to motivate research in the country, establishment of Atal Tinkering Labs is one of the major steps in that direction. Along with Jai Jawaan and Jai Kisaan, we are also giving the slogan of Jai Vigyaan. India is the third largest start-up nation in the world, after China and USA. Presently, we have selected more than 15,000 start-ups in the country, which are to be provided support, and most of them are from Tier II or III cities,” Modi added.
RESEARCH PARK FOUNDATION AT SPPU
As part of the RUSA programmes, Research Park Foundation was inaugurated at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU). SPPU has been sanctioned a total grant of Rs 100 crore under RUSA, out of which, an amount of Rs 15 crore has been allocated for the development of Research Park Foundation.
Dr Nitin Karmalkar, SPPU Vice-Chancellor, former VC Dr Arun Nigavekar, Pro-VC Dr NS Umrani, Registrar Prafulla Pawar and others were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Karmalkar said, “In order to address the challenge of improving the employability of students, the universities need to go beyond delivering traditional education. Establishment of Research Park Foundation is a part of our efforts for the same. Here, we will create the kind of eco-system that will enable our students to surpass red tapism, and will get the support and guidance needed to be successful entrepreneurs.”
RUSA INAUGURATION AT SP COLLEGE
“Boosting employability, entrepreneurship and skill hub would be top priorities as part of programmes initiated under RUSA at SP College,” Principal Dilip Sheth said.
SP College has recently received autonomy, and under the component 8 of RUSA, the college has been sanctioned a grant of Rs 5 crore. While the Prime Minister launched the programme in Srinagar, it was simultaneously launched digitally at SP College as well. Pune Mayor Mukta Tilak and MLA Madhuri Misal were also present on the occasion.
While explaining the programmes under RUSA funds, Dr Anil Dusane of SP College said, “The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has planned the initiatives under RUSA so as to improve the quality of education. At our skill hub, we will not just be arranging for skill-development courses, but also create a conducive eco-system for skills.”
Online examination, laboratories for data analysis, machine learning, bioinformatics, development of college campus infrastructure with rainwater harvesting facility, solid waste-management system, solar panels, looking after projects under Smart City are some of the initiatives planned by the college under RUSA.
