Pensioners can now get life certificate at CSCs

PUNE: For retired persons facing problems in submitting ‘Life Certificate’ or ‘Jeevan Praman’, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), Pune has now found a solution. EPFO, Pune has now given authorisation to Common Sevice Centres (CSC) across the district for submission of digital certificates.

“There are as many as 1.20 lakh pensioners in Pune. They were coming to EPFO Pune office in Camp to submit life certificate. We have now authorised 31 CSCs in Pune where these pensioners can submit life certificate through Aadhaar-based authentication. This will make things easier for pensioners who are travelling from a long distance and coming to office in Camp and submit the certificate. It will also save their time,” said Arun Kumar, Regional Commissioner 1, EPFO Pune.

“Earlier, the office witnessed the long queue of pensioners for submission of life certificates. At CSCs, pensioners can pay Rs 10 and can get the certificate. The banks were also refusing to start a digital facility. The six banks were the pension is deposited, were told to implement the facility. Now, they have started it,” said Kumar.

EPFO said the agreement it signed with banks for disbursement of pension lays down the duties and responsibilities of banks including the collection of Life Certificate/Non-re-marriage certificate in November every month from pensioners and forwarding the same to EPFO field offices for necessary action.

“We also have a special arrangement for bedridden, differently abled, or senior citizens who are unable to visit the Aadhaar involvement centre,” said Kumar.

Till now, EPFO Pune office has received around 23,000 digital life certificates.
