Pimpri: Paying Rs 6 crore against operational losses to Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has become a prestige issue for the PCMC. The Standing Committee of the PCMC has kept the proposal for paying the amount on hold for the third consecutive week.

The civic body is adamant that Chairman and Managing Director of PMPML Tukaram Mundhe visit the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and listen to grievances about the transport utility.

Chairman of PCMC’s Standing Committee Seema Savale said, “We have written a letter to the CMD of PMPML and asked him to visit PCMC to listen to the problems of the city. But he has not even sent an acknowledgement. We are going to keep this proposal pending until the CMD listens to our grievances.”

The proposal for paying Rs 16.52 lakh for an education tour to Science Park and Rs 5.72 crore against operational losses is pending for the last three weeks in the agenda of the Standing Committee meeting. “Every officer is supposed to serve people and hence, we are demanding that the CMD visit PCMC for a meeting,” Savale added.

After taking charge as CMD of PMPML, Munde has taken a tough stand on many issues. He has asked all his officials to stop pleading in front of civic bodies and take pride in PMPML. Operational losses incurred need to be borne by civic bodies as was decided during the formation of the company as per a government resolution.

Corporators of PCMC have repeatedly expressed concern over losses incurred by PMPML and there is a strong demand for demerger of PMPML. Many office-bearers in the PCMC contend that Pimpri-Chinchwad recieves step motherly treatment from the transport utility.
