Pimpri: Although, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has undertaken large scale construction of individual and public toilets in the city, making it open defecation (OD) free is still a distant dream.
Realising this, the civic body has decided to provide portable toilets at 48 OD spots in the city, to make this city OD-free by October 2, 2017.
PCMC Commissioner Shravan Hardikar recently visited all these spots, along with the officials from Swachh Bharat cell of the civic body. Joint Commissioner of PCMC Dilip Gawade said, “In many places, we came to know that people are not using toilets, as it is a little away from their home. In order to solve this problem, we chalked out a plan for providing portable toilets to them.”
In the recent review of Swachh Bharat Mission, it was found that in Vitthal Nagar, people were using passages of the building as OD spot.
As per State government’s directives, PCMC has appointed ‘Good Morning Squads’ so that they could keep a vigil in the area where vulnerable
spots exist.
