Pimpri: Following High Court’s order to curtail the unnecessary expenditure on the birth anniversary function of the prominent figures, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has found a way out to organise several programmes on the occasion of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar’s birth anniversary.

The civic body is organising a four-day function which has been labelled as ‘Prabodhan Parv.’ This celebration began in the presence of Guardian Minister Girish Bapat on Wednesday. These functions organised around the birth anniversary of Dr Ambedkar are now being celebrated as part of State government’s social equality week. Various functions are being organised under the banner of Prabodhan Parva - the civic body has allocated a budget of Rs 22 lakh.

Following the HC’s order to put a restriction on the expenditure of such functions, the State government has asked all civic bodies that it can provide funds not more than Rs 5 lakh. The court has made it clear in its order that it is not the duty of civic body to organise function on the occasions of birth and death anniversary of prominent figures. Against the backdrop of this, there was a question about the celebration of birth anniversary of Dr Ambedkar.
