Pimpri: Eight new members were elected on the vacant posts of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Standing Committee in the PCMC General Body on Wednesday.

Six BJP and two NCP corporators have been appointed as per the strength of the respective parties. Rahul Jadhav, Sheetal Shinde, Mamta Gaikwad, Namrata Londhe, Sagar Angolkar and Vilas Madegiri from BJP and Pragya Khanolkar and Geeta Mancharkar from NCP will be the new members of the Standing Committee for next two years.

There are 16 members in the Standing Committee of the PCMC and the duration of their membership is two years. After the general elections, eight members of the committee retire after the first year and the same number of members are selected again. Accordingly, eight members of the Standing Committee were out from the panel through a draw. The members who were out after one year include Standing Committee Chairperson Seema Savale. Six BJP and two NCP women corporators were also out of the panel through a draw and so their seats were vacant.

House leader Eknath Pawar gave names of BJP corporators and Leader of the Opposition Yogesh Behl gave the names of NCP corporators to Mayor Nitin Kalje in a sealed envelope.

Later, Mayor Kalje announced the appointment of the relevant names of the Standing Committee.

The selection of new members was scheduled on February 20. But since names of BJP corporators did not get clearance from the state leadership, it happened on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, there will be a competition for the post of chairman of Standing Committee between Rahul Jadhav, Sheetal Shinde and Vilas Madegiri.
