Despite that, the PCMC Standing Committee has floated a proposal for appointment of a technical consultant for the riverfront development project for Pavana and Indrayani rivers.

PIMPRI: Recently, MLA and BJP city unit chief Laxman Jagtap had ordered a reduction in the expenditure on the appointment of the consultants for various projects of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).

Despite that, the PCMC Standing Committee has floated a proposal for appointment of a technical consultant for the riverfront development project for Pavana and Indrayani rivers.

If approved, the civic body will spend Rs 3.45 crore on a consulting company from Ahmedabad.

Meanwhile, the Centre or State government have not yet given a nod for the project and the riverfront development project is not even under consideration by them. The PCMC is planning to raise funds on its own for the project.

Standing Committee Chairperson Mamta Gaikwad is a staunch supporter of Jagtap. Despite this, the Standing Committee has brought the proposal for hiring a consultant that is exactly opposite to what Jagtap has advised to PCMC recently.

Environment activist Raju Savale has questioned PCMC’s hurry for the appointment of the consultant.

ESTIMATED MONEY TO BE SPENT ON CONSULTANT
- Pavana riverfront (18 km stretch): Rs 2.70 crore
- Indrayani riverfront (16 km) : Rs.1. 78 crore.
- The proposal will come for approval in the Standing Committee on April 25.
