Pimpri: After the embarrassment of cancellation of tenders for door-to-door garbage collection, BJP and RSS workers have blamed Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Shravan Hardikar, saying that the fiasco happened due to his ‘immature’ style of functioning, which has brought dishonour to the ruling BJP.
Party members have now approached Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, demanding that Hardikar be transferred. After BJP came to power in Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) in February 2017, Fadnavis had transferred Shravan Hardikar as commissioner of PCMC from Nagpur Municipal Corporation. It is said Hardikar was close to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.
BJP leaders believed that as the party came to power for the first time in Pimpri-Chinchwad, Hardikar will do good work here, but last year, his style of working did not go down well with BJP leaders. Within a year after joining as municipal commissioner, the Opposition gave him the title of ‘BJP spokesman’.
The PCMC has faced corruption charges several times during the last one year. Allegations were made in the Rs 425 crore work order for construction of roads. Transferable development rights worth Rs 5,300 crore were issued during this period. On multiple occasions, there were allegations of cartels in the tender process. Due to the allegations, the CM had to intervene. In the latest case, a tender of crores for collection of solid waste from the city has been cancelled.
A few leaders from the BJP and RSS feel that this is happening due to the immature style of functioning of the municipal commissioner. To avoid further embarrassment, the commissioner must be removed from the post, they said. It is learnt that some leaders have already approached the chief minister with this demand.
