PUNE: The BJP corporator from Pimple Nilakh, Tushar Kamthe (38), has been booked by the Pune city police for cheating and forgery for allegedly submitting a fake educational certificate while contesting the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) elections.

The FIR was registered on Friday with the Sangvi police based on a complaint by Congress candidate Sachin Sathe (44), a resident of Pimple Nilakh. Sathe is also the Congress unit president for Pimpri-Chinchwad.

According to the police, Kamthe was elected corporator from Ward No. 26B (Pimple Nilakh) after he won the PCMC elections this year. Sathe had contested the election from the same ward. Even though Kamthe failed Std XI, he had submitted fake documents of Marathwada Mitramandal College of Commerce (MMCC), Deccan Gymkhana area, stating that he passed the exam in 1998-99.

"The college had remarked 'fail' on his certificate, but while submitting the document for Std 12th admission in 1999 at Baburao Gholap College in Sangvi, he submitted the certificate with the remark 'passed'. When I enquired with MMCC, I was told that Kamthe had failed and they had mentioned 'fail' on his certificate," Sathe stated in his complaint.

Police have booked Kamthe for offences under sections 417 (punishment for cheating), 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc.), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using forged document as genuine) of the Indian Penal Code. Police Sub Inspector Bagul is further investigating the case."
