Pune: While the State-wide plastic ban by the Maharashtra government is causing a ruckus involving plastic manufacturers and traders in the city, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has published an advertisement for a course in ‘making plastic granules’.

The course is listed among the 20 offered as part of PCMC’s Knowledge and Skill Development Programme for Women, under the Women & Child Welfare Scheme by PCMC’s Urban Community Development Department.

Smita Zagade, Assistant Commissioner, Urban Community Development Department said the course is part of the list from last year, much before implementation of the plastic ban.

“Plastic granules are not directly used by the public, but are used in production and processing. If the existing plastic is recycled into granules and used in production, it wouldn’t cause any harm. However, as almost all kinds of plastic are banned by the government, if we receive any directives from the government regarding the same, we will take the course off the list,” Zagade said.

Last year, the course had found no takers. Thus, whether or not people would approach the PCMC for it this year remains doubtful.
