Pune: The proposal for the construction of a Rs 15 crore commercial complex in approximately 1 lakh sq ft at Dhobi Ghat in the limits of Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) will be sent to army’s Southern Command headquarters soon.

The construction of the multipurpose hall where the commercial complex will be set up will start after the Southern Command sanctions the proposal.

The board will earn Rs 80 to 85 lakh per annum through the collection rent of these complexes.

Last year, the board had approved the architectural designing of the multipurpose hall and now, the board is gradually following the procedure to construct it.

Atul Gaikwad, corporator of Dhobi Ghat, said, “The proposal of constructing a multipurpose hall for operating a commercial complex was sent by the board to Defence Estate in New Delhi in 1997. Since then, the matter was still pending with the Defence Estate.”

Sukhdev Patil, Executive Engineer of PCB said, “The Southern Command authorities are expected to sanction the financial proposal of Rs 15 crore within six months.”

Sukhdev Patil further added, “The multipurpose hall will have banks, financial institutes, shops and many other commercial establishments of such kind.”

“It will be of two floors and the allotment for any commercial complex is not decided yet. If it runs successfully, it will help us to generate more revenue, benefitting all projects,” Patil said.
