PCB merging with PMC a false rumour: PCB VP

PUNE: Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) Vice President (VP) Priyanka Shrigiri has stated that the rumour that the PCB will be merged with the Pune Municipal Corporation limits was false and they have not received any information or government resolution (GR) about it.

Recently, the elected members of PCB opposed the idea of abolishing cantonments and their merger into local municipal bodies through an official press release, claiming the move is ‘anti-democratic and anti-public conspiracy.’

Shrigiri told Sakal Times, “We do not know when and how this rumour started. When it reached us, we opposed it. This is just a rumour and we are against it. Also, there is no such agenda or GR released by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) that the Cantonment should be merged into municipal limits.”

She added, “If MoD decides to release such GR or agenda on shifting civilians to the municipal limits and decide the boundary between army and civilians, then we would talk about it. Also if this happens, there will be major prohibitions on construction and infrastructural development.”

She said this issue was not discussed with the expert committee of MoD which recently visited the Cantonment.
