Pune: BJP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Kakade termed his party’s office-bearers in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) ‘stupid’ and said they did not know the reason behind scrapping of the tender process for implementing the 24X7 water supply project.
He was speaking to the media after PMC Commissioner Kunal Kumar announced scrapping of the tender process citing GST implementation and the new schedule of rates.
Kakade said the decision on scrapping of the tender process was taken by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. “After I apprised Fadnavis about the inflated rates quoted by the bidders, besides the civic administration framing terms and conditions of tenders in such a way that only four private agencies can be eligible, he decided to scrap all tenders,” Kakade said.
“If BJP leaders in the PMC are saying that the tender process was scrapped due to implementation of GST and not following Fadnavis’ order, then they are stupid,” Kakade told reporters.
After the media started raising the issue about inflated rates and the civic administration favouring specific agencies in the tender process, Kakade said he obtained documents of the tender process and after studying them observed that the media reports were accurate.
He said henceforth he would look into each and every tender of the PMC to avoid inflated rates. When asked if the BJP leaders in the PMC consulted District Guardian Minister Girish Bapat about the decision, he said the decision was taken by the CM and Bapat was informed about it.
