Over 13,000 applicants respond to voters’ registration drive in Pune dist

The Election Branch has appointed 6,185 block level officer (BLO) in all 21 constituencies to conduct this special voter enrollment drive.

PUNE: The special drive for new and existing voters received a good response with over 13,512 applications received by the Election Branch which included registrations, change in address and correction of names from the voters’ list on Saturday.

This was the second special drive conducted across 21 constituencies in Pune district from 10 am to 5 pm. The first drive was conducted on June 23 and the next drive will be conducted on July 28.

The Election Branch has appointed 6,185 block level officer (BLO) in all 21 constituencies to conduct this special voter enrollment drive.

As per the officials, they have received 9,444 applications under ‘Form No 6’ for new voter registration, 1,780 applications under ‘Form No 7’ for deletion of names due to death, 2,019 applications under ‘Form No 8’ for correction of name in voters’ list and 269 applications under ‘Form No 8 A’ for change in name for migration purpose.

Monika Singh, Deputy Election Officer (DEO) said, ”We have received a good response and will conduct a few more such drives. The voters also come to know about their voting centre which is also the aim of calling people.”

The DEO expressed her concerns after Wadgaosheri and Khadakwasla wards had not shown a good response. This time about 161 applications were received from Khadakwasla and 482 from Vadgaonsheri. 

Officials said they received good response from Junnar, Khed, Maval, Shirur and Ambegaon talukas.
