Outreach prog held at schools by GST, Pune Region 1

Pune: The Goods and Services Tax (GST), Pune Region 1, has taken an initiative to educate students of Std XI and XII of Commerce stream about GST and its benefits. Such sessions are being conducted since last seven months at various colleges in the city.

An official of the department said, “We introduced this programme in schools in January keeping the youths as a priority and education being given the utmost importance. Our motive is to educate students of Std XI and XII of Commerce and Economics stream about the importance of GST. We are looking forward to more schools joining us,” he added.

“An outreach programme was conducted in Kendriya Vidyalaya, Range Hills, under the guidance of Milind Gawai, Commissioner, GST, Pune Region 1. Our new recruits and inspectors taught the subject. We received an overwhelming response from the students and teachers of the school and they have requested one more session covering more students in the month of March,” said an officer of the GST, Pune region 1.

“The office of Commissioner of Central GST Pune 1, as per the directives of the CBEC under the Ministry of Finance, has taken up the outreach programme of creating awareness amongst traders and the general public. As an initiative, an outreach programme for schools was also initiated, wherein general awareness programme on issues related to GST was conducted in various schools of the city. We are further planning to conduct the awareness programme in the other schools, wherein some of them have been directly approached by the department or vice versa,” said MV Badriprasad, Joint Commissioner, GST, Pune 1.
