Ornaments worth `11 lakh stolen from flat in Pune city

Pune: Burglars made away with ornaments amounting to Rs 11 lakh from a flat in Sinhgad area. A case was registered at Sinhgad police station on Tuesday.

The complainant Paresh Shah, a resident of Anand Vihar Society in Hingne Khurd, informed the police that his house has been burgled while he was on a visit to Mumbai. The incident came to light on Tuesday evening when he returned and discovered that thieves have made away with silver and gold ornaments from his flat.

According to the Sinhgad police, the thieves took the advantage of Shah’s absence and burgled his locked flat. The thieves entered the house of the complainant after cutting the iron grill on the window of a room and then broke open the cupboard in which ornaments were kept.

The police informed that the burglars may have marked the flat and entered it by cutting the grills of the window which is a common method adopted by thieves.

The police have started a probe into the matter and have registered a case of burglary against unknown thieves.
