‘Ruling party has not given the draft to the oppn members’
Pimpri: The draft of the Parking Policy for Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has been passed by the Standing Committee of the civic body recently.
The ruling party, BJP, claimed that the policy will ensure discipline on the city roads but opposition parties are opposing the policy saying it is an additional burden on the pockets of the citizens.
City President of Nationalist Congress Party, Sanjog Waghere said, “The ruling party has not given the draft to the opposition members in advance. The policy was approved as short notice proposal. Before the implementation, the civic body must invite suggestions and objections from citizens on the issue. But nothing has been followed in this case. So we are going to oppose this proposal in the General Body as well as on the streets.”
Congress City Unit Chief Sachin Sathe said, “BJP came to power with tall claims and promises, but failed to deliver their promises. Now by introducing such proposals, the party is harassing citizens. The charges for the parking policy are not reasonable. The party has introduced this to make arrangement for incomes of their workers. So the Congress party is going to oppose this in future.”
Vijay Bhojane, spokesperson for BRTS cell of PCMC said, “The parking policy has been framed as a disciplinary measure to prevent haphazard parking that causes chaos in city traffic.”
As per the proposed parking policy there will be four zones in the city. Zone wise rates will be decided by the General Body.
The Standing Committee sent the draft for approval to the PCMC General Body.
The PCMC is planning to conduct a joint survey with the traffic police once the General Body of the PCMC approves the proposal.
After approval, the policy will be implemented for initially one year in the city.
