Oppn stages protest over water cut issue

PUNE: On the water cut decision of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) due to reduced water quota from Water Resource Department, Opposition political parties conducted agitations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday in the PMC building premises. NCP, Congress and Shiv Sena conducted separate agitations on the water cut issue.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Shiv Sena and Congress leaders participated in the agitations. Arvind Shinde, Congress party leader in the corporation, said, “Khadakwasla division was illegal supplying water through the canal. However, it was stopped after the canal wall breach incident.”

He further said, “Shiv Sena should have to conduct an agitation against their Minister Vijay Shivtare, as he was present in the canal meeting when District Guardian Minister Girish Bapat took the decision on the water cut.” 

Chetan Tupe, Opposition leader in the corporation and NCP city unit chief, said, “Water Resource Minister Girish Mahajan imposed water cut on Puneities for safeguarding water theft from canal.”

In the NCP-Congress agitation, Congress city unit chief Ramesh Bagwe and NCP and Congress corporators took part. 

In the Shiv Sena agitation, Shiv Sena city unit chief Chandrakant Mokate, corporator Vishal Dhanawade, Bala Oswal, Avinash Salve were present.
