According to information given by Police Inspector R Unde of Hinjewadi police station, at around 9.30 pm, there was a fight between a few labourers and all the labourers on the first floor rushed into the L-shaped balcony to see the fight.

"The balcony was made of temporary metal support, which could not bear the weight of the labourers and it collapsed. One person was killed while 35 others suffered injuries in the incident," added Unde.

Hinjewadi police said that the deceased has been identified as Ajab Lal. Unde said that Ajab fell on his head, which led to his death. All the injured labourers were rushed to nearby hospitals after the incident.

The labourers work at different sites in Hinjewadi IT park Phase III.

Hinejwadi police have booked safety manager Balaji Nagrajan and two others for causing death by negligence. Police said that the camp supervisor and contractor will also be booked in the case. Police said that the balcony should have been made in such a way that it could have taken the weight of the labourers. Furthermore, the residents used a metal ladder to get from the first floor to the ground floor. Hinjewadi police is further investigating the case.
