Pimpri: To provide easy access for grievance redressal of citizens, the Pimpri-Chinchwad police have started ‘phone a friend’ and ‘police at your door’ services.
‘Phone a (police) Friend’
Police Commissioner RK Padmanabhan on Tuesday said efforts are on to reduce police response time. “We have divided the police station staff into teams. They have been ordered to remain present at chowks or police chowkies so whenever a call is received we can send 3-4 persons to the spot immediately. The aim is to bring the response time to 10-15 minutes. We appeal to people to contact us, ‘phone a friend’, whenever they need us,” he said. He was interacting with mediapersons at the Police Commissioner’s Office at Auto Cluster, Chinchwad.
‘Police at Your Door’
Under the scheme, complaint boxes and registers will be kept in big housing societies, townships, companies and other important places so people need not go to the police station for complaints. The written complaint received in the complaint box will be seen on a designated day and the complainant will be informed about the steps taken.
Padmanabhan said, “Our police personnel will be interacting with people during their housing society meetings. They will be informed about traffic rule violations by society members. Also, they will take feedback about traffic, crime around the societies. This will bridge gaps between police and citizens. The cops who will go to serve notices or collect fines at homes of traffic offenders, have been asked to check complaint registers. Many people do not want to give information by phone or email, hence we will keep these complaint registers.”
Drive against double parking
The police have started a drive against double parking on roads which leads to traffic jams. The police have purchased 500 jammers and deployed towing vans at strategic locations.
Good news for constables
Padmanabhan has abolished the post of ‘DO’ who used to be a head constable/ assistant sub-inspector and has distributed duties of the constables. There were complaints of harassment and favouritism, hence the post was abolished. Now, the police inspector of the police station or assistant police inspector rank officer will assign duties to constables.

Due to technical issues, when people in Pimpri-Chinchwad dial 100 for the control room, the calls get connected to Pune city police control room, who transfer the calls/ details there.
