So far students of 2008 and 2012 batches were evaluated as per old pattern of giving percentage, while as per 2015 evaluation pattern students are assessed according to credit-based system.

PUNE: A day after engineering students who had re-appeared for the exam this year from different engineering colleges complained to the university authorities about being evaluated according to old pattern despite appearing for examination as per the new credit-based system (CGPA) in effect from 2015, the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) announced on Saturday that from now onwards evaluation and results of engineering branch will be as per 2015 evaluation pattern.

This will benefit all those who have been considered ineligible for admission in next academic year, officials said.

So far students of 2008 and 2012 batches were evaluated as per old pattern of giving percentage, while as per 2015 evaluation pattern students are assessed according to credit-based system.

On Friday hundreds of students from 2008 and 2012 batch had demanded to be evaluated as per the new credit-based system. Varsity officials had conducted a meeting regarding this demand on Saturday.

“Since all students had taken similar syllabus like those from 2015 and they have also appeared for the same pattern examination we have decided to evaluate everyone equally,” read an official statement released by the university.

Hundreds of students had gathered outside the office of Controller of Examination at SPPU on Friday claiming that several students were failed due to wrong assessment in the third year engineering results which were declared three days ago.

“It was shocking for us when we observed that instead of CGPA, our marksheet of sixth semester reflected percentage. In 2015, credit-based system was introduced and we had also filled form as per the new pattern. But we were evaluated according to the old pattern. Due to this chaos, it is likely that many students will lose a year. With CGPA, students are promoted to next year even if they have ATKT in six  subjects while for us, more than three subjects is an entire year down,” said a student.
