No tax hike in PCMC budget

Hardikar said that the budget has been prepared to keep in mind various factors to make Pimpri Chinchwad an eco-friendly and prosperous city.

PIMPRI: Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Shravan Hardikar on Monday presented the civic budget amounting to Rs 6,183 crore to the civic body’s Standing Committee, proposing no tax hike in the new financial year.

Hardikar said that the budget has been prepared to keep in mind various factors to make Pimpri Chinchwad an eco-friendly and prosperous city.

The budget has taken into account Rs 1,562 crore expected from the State and Union governments’ various schemes and grants. Standing Committee Chairperson Mamata Gaikwad received the budget from the municipal commissioner. The Standing Committee meeting was earlier adjourned for 10 minutes to pay homage to the martyrs of the Pulwama terror attack. The budget has allotted Rs 1,363 crore for various development projects in the city.

The budget has made provisions for a grade separator and a flyover in Bhakti-Shakti Chowk, an expressway in Rahatani, a creation of an IT hub, a new theatre in Pradhikaran and a village plaza in Pimple Gurav. Besides, substantial provisions have also been made for the Metro and BRTS schemes in the city.

Important projects to be taken in the new financial year include grade separators at Sai Chowk in Rahatani, roads near Akurdi railway station, redevelopment of Annasaheb Magar Stadium, a heritage museum, a laser show at the Bird Valley, a light and sound show at the Bhakti Shakti Chowk and e-classrooms in the civic body’s schools.

- Rs 40.95 crore for schemes for women
