Pune: Officials of Nigdi police station arrested two persons for staging a murder to look like a hit-and-run case.
The incident occurred on August 18 when Nigdi police received information about a man lying in an injured state near Pavle flyover. Nigdi police reached the spot and rushed the injured man Shankar Zende (39) to YCM Hospital.
Following the incident, police thought it as a case of hit-and-run and started investigation on those lines. Senior Police Inspector Vijaykumar Palsule said that during investigation, police found that Zende was not in good books with two persons, Azad Mulani from Tamhane Vasti in Chikhali and Sahdev Solanke from Talwade.
Police found that there was enmity between Azad and Zende due to financial disputes. Similarly, Sahdev was a waiter at Zende’s hotel named Jaggubai and was recently sacked. Following this, Azad and Sahdev hatched the murder plot of Zende.
Police said that the duo were keeping a watch on Zende’s schedule. On August 18, at around 1.30 am when Zende was passing from the flyover on a two-wheeler, he was hit by a car, which was occupied by Azad and Sahdev.
Assistant Police Inspector Devendra Chavan of Nigdi police station said that after Zende fell off his bike, the duo accused assaulted Zende with iron rods leading to his death. Zende was found with multiple injuries and police had earlier thought that he died in the road accident.
“The accused have been arrested for murdering Zende,” added Chavan.
The police investigation team also included Police Inspector Shankar Awtade and Assistant Police Inspector Ganesh Kharge.
