Pune: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is setting a new trend in proposing new names for projects which have already been given a name. One such proposal has been tabled in the ‘name committee’ of the corporation and a meeting of the committee is scheduled next week. One proposal has already been tabled in committee.

BJP’s corporators from Sahakar Nagar Mahesh Wabale and Saidisha Mane has proposed to rename Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Park located at Taljai Hill, to Oxygen Park. On the other hand, the corporation has given the name of sitting corporator of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Subhash Jagtap’s mother Suman to Oxygen Park. Now, BJP corporators want to give another name to the park.

While speaking to Sakal Times, NCP corporator Subhas Jagtap said, “During NCP-Congress tenure, we have given a name to the park. I am surprised that BJP corporators have suggested new names for the park. As per corporation rules, no one can give two names to a project.”

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has proposed an Oxygen Park on Taljai Hill which is spread over 108 acres. The park currently has flower beds, pagodas, a jogging track and 7,000 trees. Over the last two years, the PMC has made provisions in its budget to develop it and has fenced the entire area to prevent encroachment.

Last month, BJP corporator of Warje Raja Barate also suggested names for Warje bridge. Barate suggested the name of Rajmata Jijai to Warje bridge which was opened a few months ago.
