New Pune police CP takes charge

Venkatesham held a meeting with all senior police officials and reporters. He said he is happy to serve in the city.

Pune: Senior IPS Officer Dr K Venkatesham on Friday took charge as Pune Police Commissioner from Rashmi Shukla, who will take over as Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) of Highway Safety Patrol (HSP) in Mumbai.

Venkatesham held a meeting with all senior police officials and reporters. He said he is happy to serve in the city.

Venkatesham began his career as Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Gondia. He is an officer of 1988 batch of IPS. He has worked as Deputy Commissioner of Police in Mumbai.

During his tenure in Mumbai, he became famous for his no-nonsense approach towards gangsters. He has worked as in-charge of Foreigners Registration and Immigration at Mumbai International airport. He has also worked as Additional Commissioner of Police (South Mumbai) and Deputy Inspector General of Police (Law and order) in Mumbai. Venkatesham has also served as Deputy Director in Intelligence Bureau (IB) and was in-charge of Nagpur Police Commissionerate before taking over office of Pune Police Commissioner. He has worked as ADGP (Training and Special Units) at Maharashtra State Police Headquarters.
