Pune: The Pune railway division has introduced new ‘linen trolleys,’ which will be used for distribution of linen for passengers in air-conditioned coaches, as part of the modernisation plan of Indian Railways. The system has been started on the Pune-Ahmedabad Duronto Express in first class AC coaches.

Officials said that presently the linen is carried and distributed by the attendants, which is not only cumbersome, but may also lead to the bedsheets and towels getting dirty before being handed over to the passengers.

“The trollies are 90x36x75 cm in size. The carriage bag is detachable and hence can be washed from time to time. It’s fully collapsible and can be fit inside the coach attendant’s cupboard.

At once, it can carry as many as 120 bedsheets. It also has a provision of brakes at the rear wheels for better control and steadiness,” said Sunil Udasri, Chief Public Relations Officer, Central Railways.

The railway officials said that very soon, three other long-distance trains running from Pune namely Pune-Howrah Duronto Express, Pune-Jammu Tawi Jhelum Express and Pune-Hazzrat Nizamuddin Duronto Express will get the ‘linen
trolley’.

Divisional Railway Manager Milind Deuskar said that the facility has been started in AC first coach. Soon, it will be
introduced in second AC coaches as well as in all trains under the Pune Railway Division.
