Pune: The Pune airport authority is all set to start 12 check-in counters. The trial run of the counters will start this week. A new conveyor belt at the departure area has also been set up.
The number of passengers is increasing and to deal with it, the Pune airport authority decided to increase infrastructure at the departure area. The 12 new check-in counters and Common Use Self Serve (CUSS) kiosks will be set by March-end and mid-April.
This will increase the number of counters from 32 to 44, and self-service kiosks from 3 to 8. The AAI plans to have a total of 64 Common Use Terminal Equipment (CUTE) counters, 16 CUSS equipment, 64 bar-code scanners and 8 boarding gates by December 2019, seeing the rise in number of fliers from Pune.
On March 23, the Pune airport crossed the 8 million passengers in a year mark. Last fiscal, the airport handled 67,68,852 fliers. In the 2015-16 financial year, the number of passengers using the airport was 54,17,167.
It is important we have more CUSS counters and CUTE counters to make the process of checking-in seamless and quick.
