Nepali man gets 10-yr RI for raping minor

PUNE: A 32-year-old Nepali man, who worked as a watchman at a bungalow in Lonavla, has been sentenced to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment (RI) for raping a 16-year-old girl in 2014.

Additional Sessions Judge AS Mahatme also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the convict Mitraprasad alias Govind Shivlal Bhurtel.

According to Lonavla city police station, the incident had taken place on February 8, 2014. The victim had gone to the bungalow for work in place of her mother as the latter had gone to their native place. Bhurtel had entered the bungalow through a window and then raped the minor. He had threatened to kill her family members if she disclosed the incident to anyone. The victim didn’t tell her father. When her mother returned, she confided in her and then her family lodged an FIR on March 1, 2014.
