Negligent PMC medical officer suspended

Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), at its General Body meeting on Monday, decided to suspend Medical Officer Dr Vijay Bade over allegations of negligence. 

Last week, a 20-year-old woman died as she didn’t get any treatment due to absence of a medical officer on duty at Yerwada-based PMC-run Rajiv Gandhi Hospital.

Local corporator of Majlis-e-lttehadul Muslimeen (MIM) Ashwini Landge registered a complaint against the PMC Health Department official. The issue was raised by all party corporators at the General Body meeting. and they demanded action against the doctor. 

Sanjay Bhosale, Shiv Sena party leader and local corporator of Yerwada said, “PMC should file a case against Dr Vijay Bade for negligence of his duty. A case of culpable homicide should be filed against him.”

Deputy Mayor Dr Siddharth Dhende issued an order for suspension of the doctor and formation of an inquiry committee. 
The PMC Health Department has already conducted a preliminary investigation and suggested suspension of Dr Bade. However, the order was not signed.  

Landge raised the issue of bogus patients at Rajiv Gandhi Hospital. She claimed to having spotted over 150 fake patients at the hospital. 

The PMC demolished the old 30-bed Petanji Maternity and Out Patient Department and constructed a new building with 180 beds in 2006. The hospital has modern operation theatres, OPD, family welfare department.
