Pune: The district administration is looking for solutions to increase the number of Aadhaar enrollment centres in the district.

With Aadhaar becoming mandatory for linking with various schemes there is need to increase enrollment centres. While addressing a press conference at District Collectorate office on Tuesday, District Collector Saurabh Rao said that currently there are 87 Aadhaar enrollment centres in urban areas.

“Earlier there were private operators in the Aadhaar enrollment process but there were some wrong doings by these operators and so MahaOnline was only centre for Aadhaar enrollment. We will be asking private operators if they are willing to work under government. If they do so we will be able to speed up the Aadhaar enrollment process. There is need for total 195 Aadhaar enrollment centres and currently we have only 87,” added Rao.

The Aadhaar enrollment facility is facing problems for past five months and so Rao has asked the Unique Identification Authority of India to allow private vendors to work under government officials which will help citizens in enrolling for Aadhaar. Rao said by October 20 the number of enrollment centres would increase thereby benefiting the citizens.
