NCP leaders likely to drag BJP into legal battle

Pimpri Chinchwad mayor approved appointment of new CMO despite status quo

Pimpri: It seems the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leaders in Pimpri Chinchwad are contemplating to drag the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in a legal battle. NCP leaders warned of filing a contempt of court suit against Mayor of Pimpri Chinchwad Nitin Kalaje for approving appointment of Dr Pawan Vasant Salve as Chief Medical Officer. The decision was taken at a General Body meeting last month. Kalaje approved the proposal replacing earlier CMO Dr K Anil Roy.

Meanwhile, Municipal Commissioner Shravan Hardikar said Dr Roy will continue as Chief Medical and Health Officer of PCMC till there is High Court order regarding this. The decision is pending in court. He will seek approval from the State government regarding this. Hardikar said the civic body will have to wait for court’s decision.

Leader of Opposition Yogesh Behl raised a question against the General Body’s decision saying, “We have sought the minutes of the General Body. Once we get them, we are going file a contempt of court case in the Bombay High Court against Mayor Nitin Kalaje for approving proposals in relation with the subject which is before the court.”

The opposition party corporators claim they opposed this move saying it is contempt of court. However, the proposal was passed despite the opposition.

Behl said, “The issue regarding appointment of a chief medical officer is pending before the court. The court has ordered status quo in this matter.” He added despite that the ruling party sanctioned the proposal.

Behl said, “When contacted, the legal adviser informed us he needs to examine whether the mayor has the right to sanction the proposal. He demanded to know why was it not examined before sanctioning the proposal.”
