Pune: “I am Pranit Nimhan, do remember my name, don’t mess with me,” were the words of a person, who along with three others, brutally assaulted and inflicted severe injuries on a 21-year-old student of Symbiosis College. The student was assaulted as he couldn’t give way to the assaulters’ car immediately when they honked.
The incident occurred on ITI Road in Aundh on Thursday evening and the main accused, Pranit Nimhan, has been identified as the son of Pashan based Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Pramod Nimhan.
According to the FIR registered at Chatuhshrungi police station, the complainant, Varun Desai, a resident of Bopodi, was on his way to his friend’s place in Aundh at the latter’s invitation to play cricket. While Desai was riding his scooter on ITI Road to go to his friend’s place, located inside the lane beside Sarja Hotel, a white Polo occupied by Nimhan and his three accomplices came out of Anand Park lane. After joining ITI Road, the car overtook Desai in a rash manner, slowed down and then moved ahead.
While the complainant was taking a turn in the lane beside Sarja Hotel, Nimhan and his friends overtook him and forced him to stop.
Desai, who is completing his graduation in Arts from Symbiosis College, said, “When I questioned them for stopping me, one of them told me that I didn’t give them way and started beating me. While they were beating me, one of them was repeatedly saying, ‘I am Pranit Nimhan, do remember my name, you will have to face consequences’. Nimhan punched me repeatedly, and then the others also joined him. They took out an umbrella from the car and started beating me with it.”
Incidentally, Desai’s mother Manjari is spokesperson for Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture. Salil Desai, father of the complainant, said, “After the assaulters left, a couple took my son to Medipoint Hospital. He has received a fracture in his nose and has to undergo surgery.”
The father-son duo reported the matter to Chatuhshrungi police, who identified the accused Pranit Nimhan through his Facebook account. He has posted his pictures along with NCP leader Ajit Pawar.
Dayanand Dhome, Police Inspector at Chatuhshrungi police station, said, “We have identified one of the accused as Pranit Nimhan. However, the identity of the other three is not yet known. We will arrest them soon.”
The police has registered a case under sections 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 325 (Punishment for voluntarily causing grievous hurt) of the IPC.
