Pimpri: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has launched an attack against the BJP in Pimpri-Chinchwad alleging corruption charges regarding a tender for door-to-door collection of garbage in the city.
As part of its ‘Hallabol’ agitation, NCP has lodged a complaint with the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), which has forwarded it to Principal Secretary of Urban Development Department, Commissioner of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), and Medical and Health Officer of PCMC Manoj Lonkar for further inquiry. An agitation is scheduled for April 10-11.
NCP city unit chief Sanjog Waghere held a press conference on Tuesday and informed that the PMO has taken cognisance of the complaint filed by NCP.
As reported by Sakal Times earlier, the NCP has alleged that the tender has been awarded to a contractor who was disqualified in 2007.
Waghere said, “In Nashik, the same work has been awarded at a cost of Rs 1,500 per tonne (of garbage). But PCMC has awarded the same work at Rs 1,780 per tonne.”
“The corporators opposing the tender have submitted 51 questions regarding the proposal to the Municipal Commissioner. However, the Commissioner did not issue any clarification,” he said.
NCP also demanded that the tender must be cancelled and the civic body should divide this work in four parts instead of current two parts considering Mumbai-Pune Highway as the centre point.
