Pune: Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Sena (MANS), along with All India People’s Science Network (AIPSN), Navnirmitee Learning Foundation and others, has decided to observe August 20, the day Dr Narendra Dabholkar was killed, as National Scientific Temperament Day.
‘Ask why!’ is the slogan for the day this year. Audio-visual films of Dr Dabholkar’s speeches would be screened at thousands of schools across the country on August 20. An e-book of 18 scientific experiments in different languages has been made and will also be distributed.
Several programmes and activities will be organised across the country to mark the day, on Monday.
Also, a public speech will be organised on the eve of the day, on August 19 at 5:30 pm at Symbiosis Vishwabhavan, Senapati Bapat Road, wherein there will be a discussion on the topic ‘What is scientific temperament?’
The event, organised by MANS, AIPSN, Navnirmitee Learning Foundation, Lokvidnyan Sanghatana and Symbiosis School of Liberal Arts will host renowned scientist Dr Jayant Narlikar, Mukta Dabholkar, Dr Satyajit Rath and Dr Vivek Monteiro.
While Narlikar will be speaking about learning to live in the 21st century, Dabholkar will express her views on scientific temperament for exploitation-free society. Rath will speak on traditions and modernity and Monteiro will be speaking on why should the National Scientific Temperament Day be separated.
An audio-visual showing the thoughts of Dr Narendra Dabholkar on scientific temperament will also be screened on the occasion.
