Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu created a controversy when he said that it has now become a fashion to demand farm loan waiver.

PUNE: Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu created a controversy when he said that it has now become a fashion to demand farm loan waiver.

Alliance partner Shiv Sena condemned Naidu’s comment on farmers’ loan waiver and said that it shows the insensitivity towards the issue by the BJP leader.

While delivering a lecture at Bombay Stock Exchange on listing the municipal bond ceremony, Naidu said, “Loan waiver has become a fashion these days. It should be waived but in extreme situations only and it’s not the final solution. You have to take care of systems. The farmers should be taken care in distress.”

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has come up with municipal bonds for executing the 24x7 water scheme.  Naidu and CM Devendra Fadnavis were present for the listing ceremony which was organised at the Bombay Stock Exchange in Mumbai.

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Bhosale condemned Naidu’s statement in PMC and said that it is an insult of the farmers.

Recently Maharashtra faced farmers’ agitations and many farmers came on the road demanding a loan waiver. Later, Maharashtra government accepted farmers’ demand. As Naidu made this statement on this background, there are chances that opposition parties would corner Naidu on his statement.
