PMPML officials said the suspension order mentions that Gawali was irresponsible.

Pune: Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) Tukaram Mundhe has suspended another senior official serving the public transport body on Thursday for remaining absent from service since December 6 without prior information to the seniors.

Sunil Gawali, PMPML’s traffic manager, is the fourth among the senior staffers to face Mundhe’s ire. This is the second suspension this month. Earlier, Sheshnarayan Khedkar of Bhosari depot was suspended for remaining absent from duty for a long time. Khedkar was a maintenance engineer.

In November, Mundhe had dismissed former chief engineer of the transport body Sunil Burse for allegedly failing to deliver targets pertaining to improving maintenance of PMPML buses. Burse served as the chief engineer of the public transport utility from 2007 till July 2017 when he was put on suspension for the same reason.

In July 2017, Anant Waghmare (Quality Control Engineer) was suspended for about a month for alleged dereliction of duty after it was found out that the spare parts ordered under his watch were of poor quality. Officials said the suspension order mentions that Gawali was irresponsible. He stayed away from work without intimating the seniors. He was handling one of the most important responsibilities of the transport body.

“He had not reported to work since December 6. He has not given a proper notice. His absence took toll of the operations of the transport body. Hence, he has been suspended,” said an official. He said General Manager (operations) Ashok Jadhav has been given the additional charge of traffic manager. Gawali joined PMPML in 1986 and became traffic manager in 2005.
