Pune: A first-of-its-kind structured postgraduate course in India in Leadership, Politics and Governance has been started by Mumbai-based Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini.
The nine-month residential programme will start in Bhayandar, Mumbai from August 1, and is hosted by the recently set up Indian Institute of Democratic Leadership (IIDL). The programme is a unique interdisciplinary course designed to bridge the gap between India’s young talent and India’s democratic polity and governance.
“The programme is targeted at students and young professionals who wish to make a career in politics, governance, public affairs and leadership,” said Ravindra Sathe, Executive Director of Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini.
At present, around 30 people have already enrolled for the course and there have been more than 500 enquiries. “We are quite sure that our capacity of 40 will be full before the course begins in August. The only thing that was slightly disappointing here was that we have only one woman as our student until now,” Sathe added.
Prof Devendra Pai of the institute, said, “Our course hasn’t yet received as much publicity as it needs. Also, we know that there is a little less orientation on part of women in our country as far as politics is concerned. However, there have been many enquiries by women, so we are positive that next year, there may be a higher participation from women.”
