PUNE: Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) is organising a grand 'Maha Ganeshotsav' starting from August 26 to September 5 to promote the spirit of the festival among tourists. The programme is being organised to commemorate 125 years of the Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav.
As a part of the initiative, tourists will be able to experience Ganesh Darshan tours in Pune, Mumbai and Konkan. In Pune, the tour will commence from Shaniwarwada, and include darshan at Kasba Ganpati pandal, Tambdi Jogeshwari, Guruji Talim, Dagdusheth and Tulshibaug Ganpati Mandals.
In Mumbai, the 125 years of Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav will be exhibited through the audio-visual medium and performers from Konkan and the rest of Maharashtra will join in a cultural programme. Ganesh Darshan tours will take tourists to popular pandals like Lalbaugcha Raja, Ganesh Gully, GSB Mandal, Phanaswadi Ganesh, Jitekarwadi Ganesh, and Bramhansabha Ganesh.
In Konkan, the tour includes a one-night stay. The first day will be spent in Dive Agar and the second in Harihareshwar.
The tourists will be able to participate in rituals, cultural programmes and social initiatives, besides tasting local delicacies. All tours will be scheduled between August 27 and September 3. Online booking for the tour has already begun on the MTDC website.
Jaykumar Rawal, State Minister of Tourism, said, "It is an honour to organise this cultural festival and offer a podium to display the best of Maharashtra. In Mumbai, MTDC will collaborate with the BMC to develop separate pandal for foreign travellers to see the Ganesh processions at Girgaon Chowpatty."
