Pune: Tourists from Pune, wanting to holiday in Goa this season and during long weekends, need not worry about inflated bus fares now.
Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) will run ‘Shivshahi’ AC bus for Panaji, Goa from November 1.
The first bus will ply at 5 pm from Swargate.
“The passengers who want to travel from AC in low price, the Shivshahi bus is the best option for them. The department has decided to run it from Pune to Goa from Wednesday,” said an official of MSRTC.
The fare of the bus will be Rs 750-800, which is less than that for private Volvo AC buses.
The Shivshahi will start with eight buses, four from each side.
The MSRTC source said, “Many travellers who want to go to Goa for a long weekend during New Year end up paying much higher than normal price. The MSRTC will give them secure travel in less fare.”
The ‘Shivshahi’ AC bus service is promised to be cheaper than the existing MSRTC’s premium ‘Shivneri’ brand of high-end Volvo/ Scania buses. Shivshahi will be reportedly placed midway between the existing non-AC push back Hirkani/ Asiad semi-luxury buses and Shivneri premium segments.
Kiran Jadhav, an IT professional from Mapusa, said, “It’s good news that MSRTC is starting a new bus service for Goa. I used to go by private bus and paid more than the actual price during the peak season. I have already made a plan to go to my home and celebrate New Year and it is a fact that private operators charge double or triple than usual rate. I think ‘Shivshahi’ will help many passengers to go to Goa at a lesser fare.”
