Pune: The members of Maharashtra Security Force (MSF) are protesting over government’s apathy towards their jawans employed on contract basis.
The MSF provides security to many establishments like Mumbai Metro and airport. The protesters are demanding that their jawans be given permanent State government jobs.
The protest, which started on Monday at Laxmi Road in Pune, has participation of almost 8,000 jawans from all over Maharashtra. The protesting employees will be walking from Pune to Mumbai taking the old Pune-Mumbai Highway and will conclude their protest at Azad Maidan in Mumbai.
Hemant Patil, member of Bharat Against Corruption, an organisation which is supporting this cause, said, “These jawans are paid only Rs 12,000, while those who are permanent are paid more than Rs 30,000.”
“These jawans are deployed at places where terrorist attacks are suspected. But they are not given automatic weapons. If the government is so keen on deploying these jawans in high-risk areas, then why doesn’t it make these jawans permanent employees?” Patil asked.
