MSEDCL consumers to get refund of Rs 50 crore

“According to rules laid down by Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC), all consumers have to pay MSEDCL a security deposit. On this amount collected as the security deposit, the bank gives MSEDCL an interest as per the base rate,” informed officials from MSEDCL.

Pune: The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) consumers from Pune circle will get a refund of close to Rs 50 crore.

Officials from MSEDCL informed that 25.90 lakh consumers from Pune will get this refund.

“According to rules laid down by Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC), all consumers have to pay MSEDCL a security deposit. On this amount collected as the security deposit, the bank gives MSEDCL an interest as per the base rate,” informed officials from MSEDCL.

They added that MSEDCL will refund this interest amount to the concerned consumers.

“A total of 21,65,000 residential consumers from Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Manchar, Rajguru Nagar and Mulshi will get a refund of Rs 31.93 crore,” said the officials.

The officials added that apart from residential consumers, 2,61,000 commercial consumers will get a refund of Rs 9.5 crore while 37,461 industrial consumers will get a refund of Rs 5.12 crore.

“A total of 1.9 lakh agriculture pump users will also get Rs 2.41 crore, while other 18,000 consumers will get Rs 1.18 crore,” said the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited officials.
The officials stated that according to MERC rules, the average of a month has to be given as security deposit for every financial year.
