Pune: The Akhil Bharatiya Grahak Panchayat has demanded that like Maximum Retail Price (MRP), manufacturers should be made to print production cost on items.

In a press release issued here, its chairman Suryakant Pathak quoted Union Revenue Secretary Hasmukh Adhia saying if an item is charged more than its MRP due to GST, the manufacturer has to publish an advertisement regarding the same.

However, Pathak said the concept of MRP is wrong, which is burning a hole in the consumers’ pocket. Since there is no restriction on what MRP can be printed on an item, there is no use in making mere announcements on price control.

The consumer activist highlighted that production costs of all crops that the farmers grow are available with the Agricultural Cost Bureau.

Pathak said the concept of production cost was approved when Madhu Dandavate was the Union Finance Minister. Dandavate had even mentioned this in his budget speech.
