Pune: Around 50 officials from Maharashtra Rajya Krushi Seva Sangh (MRKSS) carried out a protest rally from Central Building near Pune station to the District Collectorate Office on Monday.

The protest was carried after some members of political parties ransacked the agriculture office in Yavatmal last week following the death of 20 farmers, allegedly due to pesticide poisoning in Yavatmal and nearby areas. Around 600 farmers are also reported sick due to the pesticide poisoning.

Members of MRKSS claimed that the entire Agriculture Department is being blamed for the pesticide poisoning, which is not correct. A member of MRKSS said the State should punish those who are guilty after a probe, but till then people must not target officials from the Agriculture Department.

The members of MRKSS met Additional District Collector Ramesh Kale and submitted their demands. The members appealed to Kale to intervene in the issue so that such attacks on officials stop. Members of MRKSS included Subhash Katkar, Atul Bhor, Sunil Khairnar, Shabir Shaikh and others.

The Yavatmal police are currently probing the case of pesticide poisoning. Earlier, Agriculture Commissioner Sachindra Pratap Singh had said that pesticide sellers should only sell pesticides as directed by the State government.
