Pune: The Standing Committee of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) decided to hand over the execution of constructing flyover on the busy Karve Road from Nal Stop Chowk to Mahametro Rail Corporation (MRC) as utmost tuning of construction work of the flyover and metro rail track on the same route is required. The PMC had already suggested minor changes in the metro design to Mahametro at Nal Stop Chowk and merge the upcoming flyover in the same project. The standing committee decided to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Mahametro regarding executing the construction of the flyover.

As per the new design, the metro will pass from above the flyover at this chowk. The Nal Stop Chowk is the second busiest spot in the city after the University Chowk. Keeping this in mind and to decongest the traffic at the chowk, the municipal corporation has planned the flyover and the Standing Committee had made a budgetary provision for the same.

When asked the metro rail project is being executed for easing the traffic on busy city roads and construction of flyover will promote use of private vehicles which is contradictory to each other, the Standing Committee chairman advocated that both the projects are required. The PMC will bear the cost of the flyover and it will be handed over to Mahametro.
Meanwhile, the metro station is also coming up near SNDT College so the Mahametro will need some minor design changes.
