Pune: Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board (MPTB) organised a road show in the city to promote various tourist destinations of Madhya Pradesh in Pune on Wednesday.
Dr Srikant Pandey, IAS, Additional Managing Director and Om Vijay Choudhary, Executive Director, were present.
The road show was an attempt to bring together different stakeholders of the region on a common platform and showcase the tremendous tourism potential that the state possesses. The idea behind such an initiative is to urge more people from Pune to come and visit Madhya Pradesh.
Speaking on the occasion, Pandey said, “We have a clear vision for the State, with various activities planned to make Madhya Pradesh a tourist friendly destination. The state has a great potential to offer tourism products/attractions, wildlife, pilgrimage, heritage and leisure. In addition to the Jal Mahotsav, literary festivals, musical festivals and several other events, we are looking forward to the road shows to help us build a foundation in different regions of the country’s tourism sector.”
Speaking about attracting more tourists to Madhya Pradesh, Choudhary said, “Most of the tourists visiting our state are domestic tourists, especially from neighbouring states like Maharashtra, West Bengal, etc. So, we are focusing on offering attractions to these tourists to come and visit us more often. There are direct flights to and from the major cities in all these states like Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, etc. to Bhopal, Gwalior, Indore. Our railway network too is very strong.”
While the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board’s office in Pune was closed recently, Pandey said that they have now collaborated with several private travel agencies and tour operators here to develop a better network.
The forthcoming major events organised by Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board are Jal Mahotsav, starting from October 15 to January 2, 2018, at Hanumantiya, Indira Sagar dam, and Madhya Pradesh Travel Mart, starting from October 27 to 29, 2017, at Bhopal.
