MoD extends land lease till Dec 2019

Rajendra Pawar, Defence Estate Officer of Southern Command, said, “Since the term period of lease which is of 99 years is over, the lease renewals had to done by 2018. But the Ministry thought of extending it for a period of a year so that people with renewal lease lands are not displaced. There are 17 lease lands pending for extension in Cantonment area including Khadki, Pune and Dehu Road Cantonment Board.”

Pune: Giving a sigh of relief to over a 100 tenants of Pune Cantonment Board (PCB), the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has sent a memorandum to the Defence Estates for the extension of lease lands till December 31, 2019. The lease expired on December 31, 2018. 

The MoD has mailed the memorandum to the Principal Director of Defence Estates including Central, Southern, Western, Easten, Northern and South Western Commands and Lucknow, Pune, Chandigarh, Kolkata, Jammu and Jaipur.

DN Yadav, Chief Executive Officer of PCB said, “In Pune Cantonment there are 107 land renewals pending for extension. We have been giving out notices to them from 2017 and we have kept everybody well informed. Now that the MoD has given them time till the end of this year, the persons who are based out of this country holding lease land for renewal will get a year’s time to complete the formalities, which will prove beneficial.” 
 
On October, the PCB had send notices to 18 defaulters that had not paid the lease amount for last several years. As of now, there are as many as 107 lease renewal cases pending in the PCB due to which the civic body is losing out on revenue. Hence, now the PCB is going to issue final notices to 18 defaulters to vacate the places.
