Pune: Maharashtra Orthopedic Association (MOA) celebrated May 1 as ‘MOA Day’ across the State. May 1 is the Foundation Day of MOA.
All 36 district chapters of MOA participated in the event. More than 13,500 patients received free OPD consultation and more than 5,600 people attended public awareness camps. MOA utilised approximately Rs 40 lakh, generated through donations, for the event.
Camps were conducted in Pune, Mumbai, Nashik, Jalna, Aurangabad, Thane, Jalgaon, Kolhapur, Ahmednagar, Nagpur, Tembhurni, Latur, Beed, Amravati, Solapur, Dhule, Nandurbar, Akola, Chandrapur and other cities and towns.
The event was conducted under the guidance of President of MOA Dr Parag Sancheti of Sancheti Hospital, Pune and MOA Secretary Dr Prakash Sigedar from Jalna. Presidents and secretaries of all 36 district chapters of MOA were the flag bearers of the event and coordinated and organised events in their respective districts.
MOA has 1,614 members. All members served voluntarily and devoted at least 6 hours on May 1 to guide the public about health problems, orthopedic problems and how to overcome these problems. Free public awareness lectures included topics like road safety, arthritis prevention, back pain, osteoporosis treatment and golden hour. Other programmes organised on the day included BMD camps, blood donation camps, distribution of road safety pamphlets, tree plantation, Jaipur foot distribution camps and radio talks.
