PUNE: A case of sexual abuse of a minor boy by another inmate has been reported at a children’s home in Dapodi. Bhosari police have booked a 16-year-old boy for allegedly sexually abusing an 11-year-old boy. They have also booked the founder of the children’s home.

The founder was identified as Devidas Surwase (53), a resident of Dapodi. The incident came to light after the victim’s mother approached Bhosari police and registered a complaint.

The police said the victim was repeatedly sexually abused for three months. According to the police, the victim reported the incident to those who run the home and one of the teachers.

As per the victim, the teacher, instead of reporting the matter to ashram officials, gave a warning to the accused minor and told him not to repeat this act in the future. However, the accused continued to abuse the victim, so he had to inform his mother about the incident.

Dilip Kulkarni, Police Inspector, Bhosari police station said, “We have registered the case against the founder of the home and are investigating the matter. The juvenile offender will be prosecuted as per the Juvenile Act.”

An official of the children’s home, on condition of anonymity, said, “These are allegations and we are fully supporting the police in the investigation. Nothing is clear as of now, but the truth will come out.”
